Don't make yourself vulnerable to strange animal

I was shocked to see a photo in The Times of a 4-year-old girl gleefully “playing” with a dog at the Porter County Animal Shelter during a fundraiser. Her one hand is holding the dog under its jaw while her face is “nose-to-nose” with the dog.

If the shelter dog were to feel threatened or out of sorts, the child would be completely defenseless and her face would be the first place of attack. Children — and adults — should ever put themselves in that position unless they are extremely familiar with the dog.
