Driver's license for immigrants is good economics

I want to express my appreciation to Indiana state Sens. Tim Lanane, Jean Breaux and Frank Mrvan for addressing issues that are important to the Latino community. In so doing, they acknowledged and counted in a vital segment of the population in Indiana, American-born, for want of a better description, Latinos.

Mrvan's proposed bill to allow immigrants access to driver's licenses is, at best, Solomon-like in that it is a win-win proposition. Indiana will gain revenue, not only from the acquisition of licenses, but also license plates that otherwise have been purchased in bordering states.

Insurance companies also will reap monetary benefits by the requirement of having insurance coverage prior to applying for a driver's license.

While most immigrant drivers are safe drivers, they will be required to take training lessons, thus making them even safer drivers. This is good economics.
