Faith breeds servitude to idea, not salvation

In response to Nancy Mills' letter, “atheists and agnostics — now make up the third-largest 'religious' group in the world." Comparing atheism and religion doesn't even make sense; there is no groups necessarily associated with atheists, and many atheists (Buddhists) are themselves religious.

Atheism isn't the complete absence of religion, but the complete absence of belief in deities.

To say my beliefs as a nonbeliever are “inferior” to your beliefs based on faith, well there is nothing more narcissistic than being sure you are built in the image God, and he knows your name, or has a personal relationship with you. If your beliefs are not changed by facts, then your beliefs are not based on reality.

We don't know how the universe came to be, and no divine explanations meet the burden of proof. Faith breeds servitude, not salvation.
