Makes no sense to me for Indiana taxpayers to pay for the South Shore extension anywhere until a reciprocity tax agreement is reached with Illinois.
Those high-paying jobs you mention pay their state taxes to Illinois. Why should Indiana pay for a train to send tax dollars to Illinois?
We have an agreement on state tax reciprocity with all other adjoining states. Then on weekends we send all our entertainment money to Chicago. The only thing we have going for us are the boats.
Get the state income tax agreement, then I would support the train.
Just like the high-speed train to Detroit. Who wants to go to Detroit? Just because there are funds available does not mean we have to spend them.
