Give Republicans credit for actions on tax freeze

Rich James has missed it again. In his April 28 column, “GOP should remember its treatment of Lake County," he forgets to credit the people who really helped correct an issue that he wrote about. It’s easy to see which way James leans politically.

Reps. Hal Slager and Rick Niemeyer, two Lake County Republicans, came up with the amendment to remove the frozen levy on Lake County. They also worked to have the language removed that specified the amount of money collected and where it went for Lake County in Senate Bill 585.

But we cannot forget the real person who made this happen. It was Sen. Ed Charbonneau, R-Valparaiso, who consented to the House amendment removing the tax language of his original bill. Had he not done this, it would have stayed. Lets give credit where credit is due.
