Griffith golf course should become tribal grounds

Recently, Griffith purchased the unused 50-acre golf course on Cline Avenue.

Now what?

I suggest that Griffith give the golf course to a recognized Native American Tribe or council of tribes. Indiana is Latin for “land of the Indians," but there is no reservation in Indiana.

A reservation in Griffith could get federal money to raise the land level to end the flooding. A reservation also could have a casino and housing for Native Americans. A casino in Griffith would be the closest land-based casino to Chicago. Griffith would benefit from the economic boom. The economic stimulus would help Griffith property owners by offsetting the harm of high taxes for being in Calumet Township.

The Miami Indian tribe occupied much of Indiana once. I suggest that Griffith give the land to that tribe. Then, when the casino is built, its advertising could say “Visit Miami – in Griffith, Indiana!”
