Gun control proposals won't deter criminals

In recent articles, I have repeatedly read they need to do background checks. These are from people who never applied.

They have had background checks for about 40 years. Those who are going to commit crimes don't have to worry because they don't ever apply or shop at gun stores.

All of President Barack Obama's grandstanding will only affect the law-abiding gun owners and not the criminals. Disarm the law-abiding, leaving criminals armed?
