Hammond really needs firefighters, police officers
On Jan. 17, I got into my car to go on some errands.
My car wouldn't start, much to my dismay. The passenger door was wide open. I couldn't get out the driver's door. It was really stuck. The car horn didn't work. I pounded with my cane on the roof edge at the passenger door.
Then I pressed the button on my Life Alert necklace.
Fortunately, there was an Infinity truck a couple houses away. I yelled for help, and two guys were able to open my driver door.
Shortly after that, a fire truck arrived, and firefighters came to my door, asking if I was alright. I found out that they received my alert signal. I really appreciated that the firefighters arrived.
Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr., please don't reduce the size of our emergency people, firefighters and police officers.
We really need them and appreciate them.
