I cannot believe there is even a discussion on the issue of drug tests for welfare recipients.
The outrageous price to conduct the drug test should be the bigger issue. Yes, it is unfortunate that people fall into addictions, but the proof is all around us that these drugs will cause a person's life to fall apart and even lead to death. So why, as a society, would we want to fund a person's addiction?
Then we want to give a written test to see if a person has a drug problem. If the person has a problem, are they going to own up to it? The drug test should be mandatory. If positive, then put that person into a program and hopefully they will recover.
It seems political correctness has replaced common sense! And yes, I have a family member who has an addiction problem.
