Kudos to the newly formed Hispanics of Northwest Indiana for an impressive first annual fundraiser at Wicker Park.

In addition to programs, the HNI will strongly consider supporting candidates who have performed without reproach, have acknowledged and shown respect to our community throughout their public lives.

Equally inspiring was Len Dominquez, the guest speaker. Dominquez came with an impressive dossier and list of many successes as an educator in Chicago.

His passion for children and education was readily noted.

He said HNI must not isolate itself from others, but work with African and European Americans for the betterment of all citizens. This, of course, we knew already. But his next statement was, however, do not allow yourself to be isolated by others. Children must receive a good education, discipline and quality time from their parents.

I say amen to that. Bravo, Hispanics of Northwest Indiana.
