In response to Judy Stanton's March 12 column about the next pope:
Homosexuality is an illicit lust forbidden by God. He said to His people Israel, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination" (Leviticus 18:22). "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them" (Leviticus 20:13).
In these passages homosexuality is condemned as a prime example of sin, a sexual perversion. The true Christian can neither alter God's viewpoint nor depart from it.
This has nothing to do with doctrine; it is in the Bible, and the Bible does not change. People have changed since the beginning of time, but God does not change. You may not pick and choose which parts of God's teaching you wish to obey.
The Roman Catholic Church needs to wash its dirty laundry, but it cannot change the teachings of the Bible.
