I know I didn't waste the last 40 years of my life

I've spent 40 years of my life in public service, including three years in the US Army infantry.

Some times, no matter what you think you've accomplished, our social media seem to present a feeling of failure. Failure is when those that follow you weren't properly trained by you. Failure can be a war that you could never win because of inept leadership.

I recently retired and have spent a lot of time thinking about whether I wasted those 40 years and remembered the look in my father's eyes when he said goodbye as I left for the Army. As an old man, I now understand that look. He and his five brothers all served in World War II. But there's something majestic about this country.

After a terrorist attack, a hurricane, or any tragedy, we arise again, and that is how I know that I didn't waste 40 years of my life.

Sleep well, "da" Region. I tried my best, and I love you.
