There were two heart-warming stories and pictures recently of two correctional officers from Lake County Sheriffs Department.

On Dec. 28 was a photo of Indiana State Police Lt. Jerry Williams presenting an award to a fellow ISP officer for issuing the most DUI tickets.

On Dec. 27 was a story of children involved with truancy from schools and which leads to court cases. There was a photo of former correctional officer Nikki Byrd.

It's a good idea to take young school age students on a tour of the jail and explaining that when they choose to not go to school and do things against the law this is where they could end up.

These were very heart-warming stories involving two people with whom I once worked as a correctional officer. Two wonderful, kind friends I will always remember.
