I'm sickened by Cooper's release from prison

I read that Paula Cooper, convicted killer of Bible school teacher Ruth Pelke, got released from prison on June 17. This is a case that I remember well.

Even though I was only 10 years old when it happened, I remember it sending fear throughout the community. Our family lived only three blocks down (on 47th and Jackson Street) from where the crime took place.

I must say that the thought of her being released into society just sickens me. Cooper spent less than 30 years in prison for butchering a defenseless 78-year-old woman trying to peacefully live out the golden years of her life. Cooper should have received a needle in her arm June 17, 2013, not a release from prison.

What would have happened had it been four white girls who murdered an African-American Bible school teacher and they were released after serving less than 30 years? I'm sure the Rev. Jesse Jackson would be ready to crucify the entire justice system, hollering, "Miscarriage of justice!"
