On July 9, around 8 p.m., my family became another statistic in America. My nephew, Narcellus Taylor, was shot twice and critically injured in Rockford, Ill. His 17-year old-son and a friend were killed.

My relentless efforts of addressing the violence will not be deterred. I will continue my crusade against violence with even more relentless aggression.

What truly lessened the effects of this tragedy were the many, many calls and many condolence postings on Facebook.
