I would prefer tax on income rather than property

In light of the recent passage of the Lake County income tax, I would like to express my philosophy of property tax.

Some people think income tax is unfair or immoral, but why does property tax get a pass?

The way I see it, if you have to pay a tax on your property and can be evicted if you don't pay, it is essentially not your property. Property tax is essentially rent paid to the government.

Moreover, while income tax is based on income, high property values do not necessarily mean high income.

I would favor abolishing property tax even if it means higher income tax.
