Various media sources are reporting that liberal activists will try to legalize same-sex “marriage” during the lame duck session of the Illinois General Assembly starting Thursday.
State Rep. Greg Harris, D-Chicago, the chief sponsor, used the lame duck session in 2010 to ram through same-sex “civil unions” because proponents dishonestly promised that “civil unions” was all they wanted.
State lawmakers who pushed for “civil unions,” including Rep. Harris and State Sen. David Koehler, D-Peoria, deceived colleagues into believing that religious liberty and freedom of conscience would not be affected.
However, in July of 2011, Catholic Charities refused to violate its religious convictions by placing needy children in the homes of homosexual “civil union” partners, so the state of Illinois forced them out of adoption and foster care work, thereby affecting the lives of 2,500 innocent children.
The civil union bill was ironically titled “The Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act.”
Thinking Illinoisans can be duped again, Harris has named his marriage-redefinition bill the “Religious Freedom and Marriage Act.”
