Indiana has failed to provide intensive services for children with severe mental illnesses or disabilities. There is no money to build the Cline Avenue bridge.
Schools in Gary have structural damage: “The floor tile is broken and cracked, the kindergarten rooms flooded, there are leaks in the ceiling and a pipe broke in a second-floor bathroom, causing leaks down the hallway." The Hayward and Howard branch of the Hammond library system have closed.
Roads are crumbling, and Indiana has the eighth worst air pollution and the most polluted rivers in the United States. He has underfunded public schools and schools for the deaf and given money to for-profit charter schools. He cut funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides needed services to the poor. Is there money to expand Medicaid for 290,000 people who will otherwise have no insurance?
