Many of you might not be aware Valparaiso Community Schools decided to implement a building use fee for outside groups, which includes groups such as Girl Scouts.

There are 50 troops in grades K-12 serving over 500 girls. This fee can be as much as $30 per hour.

Girl Scouts are committed to "leaving a place cleaner than we found it," so janitorial costs should be minimal as I would think the expense of paper towels, toilet paper and the electricity that would be used during the hour's time.

My daughter's troop received their bill for the year for $450. We have decided to increase the cost to each girl to cover this fee, but there are many girls in our community who cannot afford this.

Girl Scouts give a great deal back to our schools and community, and it is a shame to nickel and dime our students.
