August 16, 2013 12:00 am

America's freedom and prosperity have come at a great human cost. Our young men and women have too often paid the ultimate price fighting for America in conflicts across the globe.

Their sacrifices, both past and present, are remembered at 5 p.m. on the first Monday of every month in a memorial service at the Freedom Shrine at the south end of Portage's Gilbert Park.

Consider yourself invited to join us in this solemn remembrance of those who have served America in all her conflicts since World War II.

Please join with James, J. B., and Rich from the Dunes Leatherneck Marine Corps League; Kelley, Nick and Doc from Vietnam Veterans Chapter 905; Tom, Pat, Fred Bernie and Cindy from American Legion Post 260; John from VFW Post 7760; and Tom from VFW Post 2511, and myself, and all the residents of Portage as well as all others wishing to honor our fallen brethren.

- Walt White, Vietnam 1965-1966, Desert Storm 1990-1991, Portage
