When did Alderman Thaddeus Jones, who is also a state representative, become landlord of every apartment in Calumet City? One would think so when he announced his plan to "encourage" apartment owners to convert their properties into condominiums over the next four years.

Landlords in Cal City should be wary of any plan by a career politician with a bright idea in his head regarding private business.

Once again we see self-touting Democrats as "champions of the poor," showing their true colors. Most people in apartments in Cal City are there because they cannot afford to buy property right now, so they rent.

Coercing apartment owners to convert their residences into condos by strong-arming them through whatever means would displace hundreds of struggling families, as well as take away steady income from landlords who depend on rent money.

Jones is like most politicians. They forget they are representatives of the people, not themselves.
