I guess I'm just a country Jake!

In read that Porter is giving Porter County $400,000 to pave the Calumet Bike Trail. This decision seems to be in line with the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority.

I am a resident of neither Porter nor Chesterton, but this gift leaves me somewhat speechless.

Our country is buried in the deepest debt ever known for a sovereign nation, quality employment is almost nonexistent, prices are rising at the grocery stores, and many experts are predicting we are soon likely to have runaway inflation similar to that in Greece, Spain and Argentina, to name a few.

$400,000 is a lot to spend paving an already surfaced bike-way that most of us may never use or even see.

I'm sure glad I'm not subject to such generosity, but I fear the same kind of carpetbagger unelected gold-digger vultures eyeing Liberty Township and other lovely areas of Porter County.

To Porter citizens of the town of Porter I send my sympathies; $400,000 could pay for lots of more practical amenities.

But, what does a country Jake like me know?
