Keep religious dogma out of public instruction
I love the way some Indiana lawmakers are so willing to waste time and taxpayer money to make political hay on nonissues that have been debated and litigated many times elsewhere.
Senate Bill 89 provides that school boards may require the teaching of creation science — i.e."intelligent design" — as an alternative theory to the teaching of evolution.
This is nothing but a blatant attempt to inject religious dogma into public education in Indiana.
In 2005, in Tammy Kitzmiller, et al. v. Dover Area School District in Pennsylvania, a conservative federal judge found that intelligent design "is a religious view, a mere re-labeling of creationism, and not a scientific theory."
State Sen. Dennis Kruse either did not do his homework or he knows the issue and is intentionally pushing an ideology that's been rejected by people and institutions committed to sound public policy.
I don't appreciate Kruse wasting the state's time and resources when there are so many pressing issues.
