No Lake County income tax should be passed; however, Lake County politicians will get what they wished for -- along with what they deserve at election time, for caving in to the downstate crowd which has been jamming them for years.

If Lake County residents are forced to pay this tax, given the history of fiscal malfeasance in their county, they deserve to know where their tax dollars are spent.

Speaking of dollars, if a 1 percent tax rate ($96 million) and unfreezing the property tax levy ($4 million) adds up to $100 million per year, a 1.5 percent tax rate borders on extortion. Don't forget to vote.
