What a sad day for Little League baseball in Lake Station.

This proud organization that has been serving the youth of the city for more than 50 years is the target of city government. The city has established a new Youth Baseball League run by the Lake Station Parks Department — with the ultimate goal being the demise of the Little League.

"Why would they do that?" you are asking. It is about control.

The Little League will not agree to the terms the city presented them, so the city said, "It's our way or no way."

Many people of the town do not agree with the high-handed tactics. The Field of Dreams was built for baseball, but the organization that should be included has been disrespected completely. At least we have lights, restrooms and concessions stands. We also never cared that one of our fields is not in the city limits. It is about the game, the kids and the community, not the address.

The Lake Station City Council needs to say enough and work with the Little League to fix this problem.
