Sen. Frank Mrvan is sponsoring legislation to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Those who oppose his idea, he calls “crazy.”
Posturing like this is typical of his party’s approach to addressing issues: Democrats walk out rather than talk, pander to special interests rather than support the rule of law, and launch into snarky diatribes rather than honest debate.
Mrvan’s proposal, clearly an attempt to curry favor with Hispanics, will invite massive fraud if enacted because it confers state-level legitimacy on individuals who have no authority to be in the United States.
Perhaps the time has come to weigh the merits of a federal driver’s license for illegal aliens. It would avoid the problem of inconsistent laws while reconciling the federal unwillingness to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws, underlying causes of the illegal immigration mess.
Mrvan should tell us if opposition to open borders is crazy, too.
