NIRPC heeded interest groups, not residents

Recent Times articles on expound the benefits of expanding the South Shore line, the Gary Airport, regional bus service, Cline Avenue, etc., but scarcely a mention is made of the Illiana Expressway.

Could it be the Illiana will be of no benefit to residents of Lake County, most of whom will never use it even if it were free?

NIRPC could have stopped the Illiana but voted for it. Thereby, Peotone is favored over Gary. Money and construction jobs are diverted from north Lake County to south Lake County for "economic development" where it is neither needed nor wanted; 12 miles of real estate is removed from the tax rolls.

NIRPC sucked up to political and special interests and voted to stick it to the taxpayers of Lake County and especially residents of south Lake County.
