Many Americans live with a fear of a Big Brother government at the national level. Residents of Lake County have more reason to fear the threats posed by their home state rather than Washington, D.C.

The state sold the Toll Road, negotiated the property assessment for U.S. Steel, challenged the air quality standards for the Calumet region and took control of some schools from local districts. Current bills in the legislature aim to gain control of the Gary-Chicago airport and to include the teaching of creationism and the introduction of prayer into the schools.

It makes my blood boil to think that Indianapolis and downstate hayseeds pick our pockets, confiscate our assets, control what we breathe and learn, and tell us how to worship.
