I was disheartened to hear President Barack Obama's words regarding the Travon Martin/George Zimmerman issue. He seemed to focus heavily on the issue of racism, which he thinks is rampant in our country.

I'm not naive enough to believe racism doesn't exist, but I think the majority of us are good moral people who do not dislike each other just because we are different — especially in Northwest Indiana where we have enjoyed a melting pot of diversity for decades.

I think our president is trying to divide us instead of uniting us. Let's not let him do that. "United we stand, divided we fall."
