My brother is a Vietnam era Marine veteran. He did not see combat but served four years stateside and would probably have made it a career if family circumstance did not dictate otherwise.

Once discharged, he found employment but after 25+ years found himself unemployed because of the company's bankruptcy. After a lengthy search he found employment, only to lose the job to downsizing four years later.

Unemployed since November 2012, by recommendation of another veteran he contacted the Crown Point Veterans Administration center for advice, referrals, assistance with job skills, etc. When identified as an "older" vet he was told the focus was on younger vets and no assistance was available for him. This is a travesty.

Whatever assistance is available to younger vets should also apply to older vets who loyally served the country as well. Shameful and disappointing treatment by the VA.
