In response to Bruce Lavin, how can having an African-American male principal at Ready School prevent sex, drugs and alcohol at the 39th Street park?

Ready's principal is not responsible for groups off school property at night. Call the police.

Where are the parents who should be monitoring their children and teaching them right from wrong and morals?

It does not matter if a principal is black, white, male or female. Their qualifications of education, prior teaching experience and ability to work with all races and nationalities matter.

A teacher's No. 1 responsibility is to teach. Unfortunately, too many children are not taught at home to respect teachers. Education for all suffers when the teachers have to waste time on discipline to many children now entering our schools. The problems start at home, and some parents need to step up and take responsibility.

The Ready principal is excellent.
