William Nangle decries the purported "game playing" by the Lake County Republican Party on income taxes. However, he misses the mark by not identifying the true culprits: Lake County Democrats.

For years, Democrats have complained vociferously that the frozen property tax levy was the reason Lake County could not generate enough income. Now, when Republican State Rep. Hal Slager proposes to lift the freeze, it suddenly occurs to these same Democrats that this will not garner enough revenue, and that an income tax is now necessary. Who didn't do their math?

Nowhere is County Commissioner Gerry Scheub's name mentioned. He has stated unequivocally that he will veto any income tax bill. After the council does the "right" thing, will Nangle publicly call out Mr. Scheub to do the "statesman-like" thing and sign this bill, along with his two fellow Democratic commissioners?

The real culprits are the county Democrats, the party of tax-and-spend.
