In reading the article about the Valparaiso-Portage basketball game attended by three former VHS coaches -- Virgil Sweet, Dale Ciciora and Skip Collins -- and with the mention of Sweet's having invented the Valpo free shot, I recalled something written by The Times sports editor when Valpo was to play in the regional at East Chicago Washington.
Sweet was the VHS coach at the time, and the writer said, "When one of the Vikings steps to the free throw line it's like the house man dealing blackjack."
