Reportedly, $8 billion will be spent on the 2012 election. Since the January 2010 “Citizens United” Supreme Court decision, far more money is involved, and by “dark money” conservative nonprofits (Crossroads GPS, Americans for Prosperity, American Energy Alliance).

The post-union-busting effort to recall Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was met by 14 billionaires outspending Democrats almost 8 to 1.

Ever wonder why we haven’t heard anything about proposals to prevent further climate change in the face of faster onset of disastrous weather events and arctic melting than predicted? It is the ownership of our elected officials, particularly Republicans, by the likes of the Koch brothers, which gives us "the best government money can buy."

Senate Republicans have set a record of over 300 filibusters to stop progressive legislation. Republicans have done a wonderful job of strategically dismantling campaign finance, which is the key to everything, even control of the Supreme Court. They haven’t governed well, however, leading us to the brink of depression in 2008.

Add voter suppression efforts for likely Democratic voters and filling vacancies on the Supreme Court, and one can see how important it is to vote wisely in this election. Consider what is best for you and your loved ones, and their health and environment, despite deceptive ads, campaigns and recruitment of churches.
