The Times shortchanged its readers when it hired Rich James to take the place of Mark Kiesling's column. Please say that Mr. James' is temporary until The Times can find a non-partisan columnist with an eye for fairness and a sense of humor.
James pounces on the new governor for wanting the state to take over the Gary airport -- even though Gary has failed to make it work after many years. James is drum beating for another casino when the ones already here are reporting record losses lately. James is against Griffith seceding from Calumet Township even though Griffith's petition is because much of its resources are directed to Gary.
James' support in the direction of the left is a disappointment. He ends a recent Sunday column with the statement, "It's enough to make you want you to secede from Indiana." How about Mr. James seceding from Indiana.
