It was two days before last Thanksgiving when word came out that the Indiana State Board of Accounts was doing an audit of School City of East Chicago.

One of the points of interest is $118,000 of leftover grant money from the Foundations of East Chicago.

On the heels of school district Treasurer Frank Ramirez resigning and pleading guilty to taking bribes, this audit looms large.

"They're still in there, Streetwise," State Board of Accounts supervisor Charley Pride told me last week. Gov. Mitch Daniels is going to have more ammunition to level at Lake County, and particularly East Chicago. The governor is merely saying, "If the shoe fits you, you've got to wear it."
