I applaud Portage Mayor James Snyder for sending snowplows to help Gary. Portage was in a position to lend assistance, and it was the right thing to do.

The mayor should not have to seek approval by the City Council in an emergency situation. Getting 20 inches of snow in a short time frame is an emergency even if it was not officially labeled one. It was not a waste of taxpayer money.
