This Veterans Day, I attended a veterans program put on by the faculty/staff and students of Clark Middle School in St. John.

We were invited to attend breakfast with our grandchildren, have our picture taken, and then a wonderful program in the auditorium. As we (veterans) walked in, the students were waving American flags and cheering.

The program consisted of a bagpipe performance, student speakers and stories from vets themselves.

For me, the most moving part was when the CMS band played a medley of songs for all branches of service and each vet stood when their branch of service song was played. Wow, did these young musicians perform! They were the best!

The CMS choir sang patriotic songs and was wonderful.

I just wanted to express a grateful thank you to the faculty, staff and students for a wonderful tribute to those of us who have served and are currently serving.

- Robert D.Olson, U.S. Army veteran, St. John
