Martin Luther King Day is a day that students should be in school. When students are in school they learn about the importance of the nation’s holidays and the great people who are celebrated.
When I was a state representative, I went to Portage High School and talked to their students about the meaning of the Civil Rights movement and how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. played a major role in it.
The notion of people being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin is one of the most important issues we face. The kids of today will learn this lesson better in school than by a day off of school where they are playing video games, going to the mall, or just sleeping late and watching TV.
