I am sickened by the recent school shooting. However, the media and our politicians are barking up the wrong tree. Study after study has proven gun control is mostly ineffective. Gun bans will do nothing.

Just look at the Clinton assault weapons ban. Nothing changed. Chicago and Washington, D.C., had bans in place, yet had the highest crime rates in the country.

Mass shootings have two common denominators. Mental illness and "gun-free" zones. Mental illness needs to be recognized and treated, and "gun-free" zones need to be eliminated. They should be called "defense-free" zones.

Guns are not the problem.
