U.S. Rep. (farmer) Marlin Sutuzman proudly proclaims his valiant battle to protect farmers' subsidy interests from those receiving food stamps in his Feb. 4 op-ed, "Farm Bill is Business as Usual."

As a farmer, he was able to get on the House committee to negotiate the legislation to try and remove food stamps from the farm bill, where it has been for at least 40 years!

You have to wonder whether the other interested party in this legislation was so zealously protected as the farmers were by Stutzman. But then, I don't suppose there are too many food stamp recipients amongst members of Congress.

Stutzman's efforts seem more like a conflict of interest than the badge of courage he seems to pin on himself.
