Take time to do your own research on Illiana

This is in regard to two past Marc Chase columns: “A Northwest Passage?” and “NIRPC should sharpen its listening skills.” Thanks from all the NIMBYs for two unbiased columns.

The Times stated the NIMBYs (Not in my backyard) have been heard, so let’s make way for the Illiana Expressway. Past public meetings (dog and pony shows) held by the Illiana Corridor Group, and the four recent Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission open houses, did not offer a platform conducive for public rebuttals.

Whether your job is reporting, or if you're elected to vote on major issues, it’s your responsibility to educate yourself on the facts and understand the ramifications of your decisions. This isn't happening regarding the Illiana Expressway. People are being spoon-fed flawed facts/statistics and are not taking the time to do their own research.

Shame on the local boosters, lobbyists, businessmen, politicians and others for exaggerating the benefits of this tollway and fanning the fires.
