My heart goes out to the victims and families of the senseless mass shootings our nation has had in recent years. Yes, we need to focus more on the guns, not stricter laws, but also education and training. Guns like the AR-15, AK-47 and others are deadly weapons in the wrong hands.

When I take one of these weapons to the gun range or other controlled environment to shoot at targets and test my skill and accuracy, I label it a sporting rifle.

On the other hand, when some lunatic who is not even legally supposed to possess such weapons kills innocent people, the media and government label it an assault weapon.

Now there is a push to ban assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and ammunition. This has driven the nation's gun community to purchase all available stock, fearing such a ban.

In a way, the ban is already in place, since law-abiding citizens cannot locate, let alone purchase, such items.
