Regarding Will Bolton's Jan. 18 letter, I, too, believe in technology in the classroom. Having been a student many times, books and teachers can be redundant.
However, Bolton did not mention what it is he is interested in pursuing in the future, and since he did not I must beg to differ with him on the fact that someone who knows their profession or craft hasn't just learned it from an iPad, E-book or online. I would not want a doctor, for instance, operating on me after just studying online.
I do not mean to be condescending; however, sometimes you need to learn from those who have the experience and can show you how to do or learn something.
I myself am a hands-on learner. I have had many people over the years show me how to practice with not only knowledge of the book but also hands-on experience.
Give those who can teach and direct you a chance.
