Porter County has again demonstrated why it is one of the better areas to call home. Its public services are first class, but what really stands out is that it is a community with a big heart.

In December, the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County and The Times Media co. jointly held their annual funding drive for the Christmas for the Elderly program that gives much needed assistance to isolated seniors with special needs. The good folks of Porter County opened their hearts and their wallets, and the drive was a resounding success.

My wife and I had the honor of representing the senior community this year, and we appreciate the gifts and services received. On behalf of the elderly of our community, I'd like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association, The Times and all of the folks who contributed services and funding to the Christmas for the Elderly program.
