A special thanks and salute of gratitude to the East Chicago Central Cardinals football team. Central may have had teams with more talent, but none with more heart.

Each time this group of young men faced adversity on the field, they simply refused to become discouraged. Whether it be trailing at halftime against Morton, letting a big lead slip away against West Side or falling behind early against undefeated New Prairie, they seemed to be at their best when the chips were down.

Hopefully, we can all draw inspiration from them when we’re up against the odds.

While tears were shed after their loss at Fort Wayne Dwenger, I’m inclined to think it was largely because for the vast majority of the players, it was their final game at Central. They certainly had nothing else to feel bad about.

Incredible journey!
