Urge lawmakers to extend state ban on phosphorus
Indiana was the first Great Lakes state to ban phosphorus in laundry detergents in order to achieve the goal of the first Great Lakes water quality agreement with Canada that was signed in 1972.
The ultimate reduction in eutrophication is considered by scientists to be the first environmental victory for a major ecosystem across an international boundary.
Now the General Assembly's approval of HB 1032 is needed to extend that protection to inland waterways by taking phosphorus out of lawn fertilizers. Please urge all Northwest Indiana representatives to help.
