Use technology to put an end to bank robberies

We are living in a technological era. Among the many scientific advances are the Mars Exploration Rover and thought control prosthetics (to name a few).

Now, with all of our advancements, why are we still reliving the John Dillinger days with so many bank robberies? Why is technology absent from methods of prevention?

Could some of these items help our banks to be safer? Having metal detectors at the bank entrance, bullet-proof glasses enclosing the bank tellers with only a small slot to slip papers through, having a silent button near each teller that when pushed notifies the armed guard (stationed in the center of the bank), and also notifies the police station, and the silent button automatically locks the entrance door so any attempted robber could not exit.

I'm sure our engineers and electronic experts could develop many methods to prevent these bank robberies so we will no longer live in the Dillinger days.
