Valpo's new lights good for astronomers, drivers

A big thanks to Valparaiso for the stylish, practical and forward-looking street lamps at the new Ind. 49 interchange. The light shines down on the roadway, not into drivers’ eyes and not up into the heavens.

This directed lighting makes a start at eliminating the ghastly orange glow of urban light pollution that disorients migrating birds and destroys our own enjoyment of and wonder at the night sky.

And there’s this: the hooded lamps and their cones of light somehow create a feel that’s both retro and futuristic. Whichever way, they’re really cool!
