The water improvement project here in Lake Station is not being done thoroughly, and the outcome is too uncertain for the residents to pay a $7.455 million loan when we don't even know if the proposed filtration plant will be what this community needs for clean and drinkable water.
Just because you can filter water does not mean the water is safe, making this project a crap shoot at best. The mayor and City Council want to filter the same water we have right now.
We all know what this water does to our health and our plumbing. That is why we don't drink it, and comprehensive testing of the aquifer should not be ignored.
We have experienced water rate increases and are still drinking bottled water at our own expense. If the filtration plant does not work, we as ratepayers have to pay this money back. We have too much at risk.
We need the Environmental Protection Agency to monitor this project for the health and safety of this community.
